Plarium’s RAID: Shadow Legends is a mostly single-player RPG that has a competitive aspect. If it sounds familiar, the game dropped on Android and iOS in 2019. In mobile gaming circles, this game is notorious for how aggressive the advertising is.
Ads for RAID: Shadow Legends pop up in other games, on social media, and even YouTube. As a matter of fact, if a YouTuber runs ads in their content, it’s likely you could get some promote code from them as they will probably advertise the game.
If not this one then Plarium’s other game Vikings gets advertising love. Anyway, I’d seen it promoted often, and eventually, I gave up and installed it for Android.
RAID: Shadow Legends
This game really delivers graphically. It’s one of the best-looking games for mobile. The style of the characters is more in line fantasy but with a realistic twist.
Normally, you get 2D characters—oftentimes they’re anime-inspired. I won’t say Plarium pioneered this graphical approach but it is rare for this kind of game and helps it stand out.
Beyond that, it plays like many other mobile RPGs and strategy games. You have an energy bar that determines how much you play at a time before it refills. On the home screen—the Bastion—you’ll notice two main options for Champions or characters and Battle.
Now, Battle is self-explanatory. You are taking to the Battle screen where you can select the Campaign. Here, you are welcomed by a map with several locations increasing in level. Each one has seven levels—one being a boss level. The battles on each level take place in three waves allowing for a team of one to four champions.
You must clear each location before the one opens but you are able to gain loot from each level. It can be gear, champions, or summoning crystals ranging from common to rare. You also gain cash from each battle.
The other Battle options include Dungeons which net some really useful gear and crystals of at least rare quality, potions needed for ascending. It’s easier to farm what you’re looking for since each Dungeon shows what loot is likely to drop.
There are also the Arena and Clan which serve as the PvP element and a Battle option to progress through stages using champions of particular factions.
Mobile Gaming Review: 8/10 (Recommended)
There’s so much other stuff in this game that I didn’t get into. There’s champion management, finding weapon sets, different champion types—there’s a lot to do in this RAID: Shadow Legends. All of this will keep you engaged and busy. It’s even better if you’re a new player or lax player because you end up with a surplus of energy to play the game with.
I would say this is an easy 9/10 game but Plarium is just as aggressive with pushing players to engage in microtransactions for more money, crystals, gear, or summons as they are with their advertising.
Opening the game each time will see you hit with three to four pop-ups for something they’re promoting.
On that note, the key is to tap near the upper right around where the Tavern would be on the Bastion screen. Because these pop-ups come one after another after you close them. Wait if you’re about to battle or check your champions.
Those options are at the bottom right of your screen where the purchase or buy button would be.
This isn’t even a pro-tip, just avoid the shock from tapping on “Purchase” by accident and seeing that you’re about to pay $30 for in-game currency and stuff on mobile.
