Many hardcore gamers frown at the thought of playing mobile games but with the improvements in mobile devices, games like Archero may change a few minds.
True, mobile games have gotten a bad rap because of simple games that are not a full sit-down experience, but sometimes simply don’t mean bad.
Why It Is So Fun
Archero is a free to play the game by developer, Habby. There really isn’t a story that I know of. You are basically an archer that goes to clear dungeons.
Because it is free to play, the entry-level for it is very low.
It isn’t very graphically intensive so just about any phone can handle it. It still remains a pretty good looking game on any device.
The gameplay is simple. You can play it with one hand. You move your archer around the screen and when he stops, he starts shooting. That’s basically all there is to it.
There are other mechanics such as different weapons having different effects. Equipping armor and charms to boost your stats.
You can get gear from beating the dungeon, completing events, and through the season pass.
Archero, The Perfect Balance
I’ve had hours of fun in this game. The free-to-play model is present in this game in a big way but it’s never intrusive.
When free to play games actually let me play the game and make respectable progress in it without buying stuff, it makes me feel better about using money.
Everything in the game other than some of the newer characters released can be earned in-game without spending money.
The stuff that you can buy is the premium season pass, which is very good, and different forms of currency.
Two of the biggest downfalls of the game is the lack of motivation for doing this because of there not being a story and steep difficulty spike.
The difficulty spikes are the biggest downfall. In the same dungeon, there are times that getting through the first 17 floors is a breeze only to be halted completely by the 18th floor.
It’s not just that, it’s that because of the free to play model unless you want to pay for the chance of getting something better, you basically have to play the waiting game.
Even though I don’t play much anymore, they constantly add new content and events into the game to keep it fresh which is great.
Final Score: 9/10
