One of the most important esports organisations, G2 Esports, just made a big announcement about its Valorant roster. The team has decided to let go of its North American Challengers League Valorant roster because they didn’t qualify for the highly anticipated VCT Americas Ascension event.
Many fans and people who follow the team are shocked by this move.
When G2 Esports announced their star-studded team for the North American Challengers League in December, news of their arrival spread quickly.
Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan and Michael “dapr” Gulino, both of whom used to play for the successful Sentinels team, were on the roster. The only way to know if you’re going to make it is if you’re a fan of the show.
G2 Esports Parts Ways with Valorant Roster Following Failure to Qualify
But things didn’t go as planned for G2 in the Challengers League. At first, the organisation tried to get a spot in the top-tier VCT Americas league, but they were turned down because of a dispute between the team’s then-CEO, Carlos “Ocelote,” Santiago, and Andrew Tate.
Even with this setback, G2 was still allowed to join the Challengers League with other well-known esports teams.
During the first split of the North American Challengers League, G2 Esports showed promise by finishing first in their group with a strong 4-1 record. After that, they came in second place in the Mid-Season Face Off. In the second split, however, they didn’t do as well and didn’t win a single game, going 0-5 in the group stage.
Even though they had trouble, G2 got enough points to get into the North American Challengers Playoffs. They didn’t do well enough in the tournament to move on to the prestigious Americas Ascension event, which was too bad.
So, G2’s season was over, and they couldn’t compete in the VCT Americas, which was very important to them.
G2 Esports surprised everyone on June 7 when they said that they would be breaking up with almost the whole Valorant roster and staff, except for ShahZaM. But G2 made it clear that ShahZaM would be moving into a role as a content creator within the organisation.
G2 Esports doesn’t have any big tournaments going on right now, and there haven’t been any announcements about big third-party tournaments either. But because of how well they played in the previous season, they were able to keep their spot in the Challengers League for the 2024 season.
As Valorant esports continue to change, it is still unclear what the future holds for G2 Esports and their Valorant division. Will they add new players to their team or try something completely different? Just wait and see.
