Once thought to be the best team in the world, the Sentinels have had a terrible time in the VCT Americas Valorant league.
With only two games left in the round-robin stage, they are in ninth place and have a Win-Loss score of 2-5. Tarik “tarik” Celik, a former professional CS:GO player who now makes video for Sentinels, has shared his thoughts on the team’s ongoing problems.
Sentinels’ Nightmare VALORANT Season: A Story of VCT Roster Changes and Inconsistent Results
One of the biggest problems that Tarik brought up is that the team is not stable. During the off-season, Sentinels got four new players and a new teaching staff.
This made it hard for the team to play the same way every game. The team also had to deal with problems within itself, like when Hunter “SicK” Mims was suspended and arrested for “criminal” offenses.
Tarik thinks that these changes have made a big difference in the ongoing difficulties of the Sentinels. He said, “The fact that we made so many changes before the season stinks because there’s no continuity, and that’s just going to lead to inconsistent results.
We should have had a set team, a set coach, and set managers. Things were obviously not going well, so they had to make changes, but it stinks that it turned out that way.”
Tarik also compared Sentinels’ position to that of Disguised, a team in the NA Challengers league that is in danger of being kicked out even though they added superstar Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker to their roster. He said that the team can’t count on winning as long as there are so many changes going on.
Tarik also stood up for Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, who was getting a lot of bad press after the team’s rough start to the season. He thinks that the team’s problems are bigger than TenZ and that making him the target was “f***ing ridiculous.”
Tarik also said that the recent losses to Cloud9 and Evil Geniuses show that the problems are not caused by just one player.
Sentinels still have two games left in the regular season of the VCT Americas, but their chances of making it to the playoffs aren’t very good. No matter what happens, it’s clear that the team needs to work on their problems and build a more stable squad.
The addition of talented players and a new coaching team may have gotten people excited at first, but in the competitive world of Valorant, success is impossible without consistency.
