The first person shooter (FPS) community is ecstatic as XDefiant, Ubisoft’s most recent multiplayer game, emerges as a potential competitor to the venerable Call of Duty franchise.
Fans are divided on whether or not XDefiant has what it takes to take on Call of Duty, which seems to be unbeatable. The beta release was good, and the number of players is growing.
The Struggle to Dethrone Call of Duty:
Many FPS games have been called the “COD killer” in the past, only to fall short of expectations. Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite both had rough starts and controversial content strategies that kept them from becoming real competitors.
Even small projects like SplitGate couldn’t get the attention they needed. Now, XDefiant gets into the ring with former Call of Duty developers and players, hoping to offer a fast-paced multiplayer experience.
Defiant’s Promising Early Reception:
During the closed test, people in the community loved XDefiant and called it a “promising competitor.” By stating an open beta release window and a big plan for the game’s first year, Executive Producer Mark Rubin added to the excitement.
At the start, there will be 14 maps, 24 weapons, 5 groups, and several well-known game modes. Ubisoft also plans to add 12 new maps and guns to the game over the course of a year. During the closed test, more people watched the game on Twitch than watched Call of Duty. This added to the game’s early success.
Is XDefiant Ready to Take on Call of Duty?
There are rumours that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will come out in November. Some players think that XDefiant could have an advantage if it came out in late summer. Some people think that if XDefiant comes out before Modern Warfare 3, it could make a big difference in the field of competition.
Players are excitedly discussing whether XDefiant’s game and the current state of Call of Duty make it a good time for a new competitor to rise.
Some players are still hopeful about XDefiant’s chances, but others are less sure. Due to its sizable fan base and strong brand recognition, they say, Call of Duty’s dominance is unbreakable. Players will soon be able to form their own views and experience XDefiant first hand when the open beta for the game starts on June 21. During the beta phase, XDefiant’s game mechanics, balance, and general appeal will be put to the test in a big way.
Ubisoft’s promise to support the game for the first year by adding new material and features on a regular basis increases the game’s potential.
