Fortnite, one of the most popular battle royale games, just added a Ranked mode to give the gameplay a competitive edge. But it looks like players are already giving up on the Ranked mode in favour of normal matches. One big problem seems to be the main reason why they are unhappy.
In battle royale games, ranked mode has become a common feature. Games like Apex Legends and Warzone have also added competitive game modes to give players something to work towards and improve their overall experience.
But even though these modes have worked well for some games, that doesn’t mean they will always work.
After the introduction of its Ranked Play mode, Warzone, for example, suffered a significant decline in player count. Even though this isn’t just because of the Ranked mode, it does raise questions about how competitive gameplay affects player engagement.
The Downside of Fortnite’s Ranked Mode: Players Fleeing due to Long Waits
With its Ranked mode, Fortnite also has some of the same problems. Epic Games received a lot of comments about long queue times for matches when they asked players about their ranks on Twitter. Instead of sharing their ranks, players talked about how annoyed they were that these long wait times were ruining the mode.
Jack “CouRage” Dunlop, a well-known Fortnite player and co-owner of the 100 Thieves team, said that he and other players had stopped playing Ranked because of the long queue times.
He said that putting the mode on a single server might solve the problem, but this idea didn’t go over well. Players said that playing with a high ping against people from different parts of the world would ruin the experience, especially when it came to building, which is an important part of Fortnite’s gameplay.
CouRage wasn’t the only one having trouble. The lengthy matchmaking process, according to another player, is also why they quit playing Ranked. The queue times may be a glitch, according to Fortnite streamer FaZe Replays, who also asked the developers to look into the problem.
The fact that Fortnite players are unhappy with Ranked mode is a big worry for both the players and Epic Games. In addition to discouraging players from playing in the competitive mode, long queue times also reduce players’ overall enjoyment of the game.
This problem needs to be fixed quickly, whether by improving matchmaking systems, adding more servers, or looking for other ways to cut down on waiting times
