The collapse of FTX (short for “Futures Exchange”) has sent shockwaves through the esports industry, which relied heavily on the exchange for sponsorships and investments. Due to a lack of funding, many teams have had to cut back on spending, and it’s not clear how long this trend will last. The collapse of FTX has also led to a class action lawsuit against influencers who were paid to promote the exchange. The lawsuit says that the influencers didn’t tell their audience the whole story about what was going on.

This lawsuit emphasizes the significance of transparency and authenticity in influencer marketing. When promoting financial products or anything else that could hurt their audience, influencers must be held to a higher standard. They must take responsibility for what they do and be honest with their audience. This means telling them if they are getting paid to promote a product and if there are any risks associated with that product.

The Dark Side of Sponsorship: FTX’s Downfall and Its Ripple Effect

The potential legal repercussions for influencers who don’t say they work with brands are a wake-up call for the whole influencer marketing industry. As esports and other industries continue to use influencer marketing as a key strategy for promoting products and services, it’s important to make sure that influencers are held responsible for their actions. This includes giving influencers clear rules and regulations to follow and teaching them how important it is for their marketing to be honest.

The failure of FTX also emphasizes the need for esports to have more than one source of funding and sponsorship. While it can be tempting to rely on large financial institutions for sponsorship and investment, this can be risky if these companies are not financially stable. Esports organizations should think about getting money from a wide range of sources, such as venture capitalists, angel investors, and even government grants.

The fall of FTX and the lawsuit against influencers that followed should be a lesson for the entire esports industry. It’s important for esports organizations to be open about how they market themselves and to get money and sponsorship from a variety of sources. As the esports industry continues to grow and attract more investment, it’s important to make sure it’s financially stable and can keep going for a long time.
