XDefiant, an upcoming FPS game from Ubisoft, has already gotten a lot of attention during its closed test. Not only did the Call of Duty (CoD) community love it, but it also beat both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 in viewing when it first came out on Twitch. FaZe Jev was one player who had a lot to say about the game, especially how the map was made.
Jev, a famous YouTuber and longtime Call of Duty player, comes back to the series every year to make videos but is always disappointed by how boring the maps are. In his most recent YouTube video, Jev talked about how much he liked the flow and uniformity of XDefiant’s 14 maps. He even said, “The worst map in this game is still better than the best map in Call of Duty in the last five and a half years.”
Jev’s praise for XDefiant’s map design is particularly interesting because he is known as a Call of Duty veteran. He said that XDefiant’s flow was “impeccable,” which was a far cry from the “absolutely shot” flow of current Call of Duty games. He said that this was partly because of XDefiant’s spawn method, which he liked because it was always the same and helped players learn and get better at the game.
FaZe Jev raves about XDefiant map design, calls it a “CoD killer”
Jev, on the other hand, said that CoD maps were “stagnant” and didn’t like how they used squad spawns, which he said caused players to spawn right next to enemies. He said that group spawns can ruin even a well-made three-lane map.
Jev’s review of how the maps in XDefiant are made is just one example of how well the game is doing so far. The gaming community has also praised it for its quick, fluid movement, solid UI, and lack of skill-based matchmaking. Even though it’s too early to tell if XDefiant will really be a “Call of Duty killer,” it’s clear that Ubisoft has put a lot of thought and work into making a worthwhile competitor.
As of April 23, the XDefiant closed test is over, and players are excited to see what the full game has to offer. Will it live up to the buzz that its closed test created? Time will tell, but one thing is for sure: one of the most loyal Call of Duty players is already a fan of the game’s map design.
