Activision Faces Backlash for Removing CoD-Inspired Fortnite Maps

Call of Duty fans are accusing Activision of being “scared” after the company started removing Fortnite Creative 2.0 maps inspired by CoD. Fortnite Creative 2.0 has opened doors of endless possibilities for innovation, allowing players to create new games and experiences within Fortnite Creative Mode. This feature has been popular among CoD fans who used it to recreate Rust and classic zombie maps.

However, on April 3, CharlieINTEL confirmed that Activision had started to DMCA and request the removal of Call of Duty-related content in Fortnite Creator mode. Mist Jawa, a Fortnite Creative map creator who had recreated Rust and other zombie maps, stated that he would no longer be recreating any copyright maps after Activision started cracking down. “Modern Fortfare, along with some zombie maps, have been deleted and can no longer be played. I still plan on creating unique experiences for shooter & Zombie fans,” he said.

Activision Faces Backlash for Removing CoD-Inspired Fortnite Maps

Fortnite Creative map creators earn real-money rewards based on how much players engage with their content. Epic Games has explicitly stated that players cannot use someone else’s IP to create monetized content with the Unreal Editor. Activision’s move to crack down on CoD-inspired Fortnite maps has caused backlash among fans who feel that the company is afraid of someone making a better version of their game.

“They can’t stand seeing someone make a better version of their game, so instead of improving theirs, they just take down the good ones,” one fan commented. Another fan added, “They’re mad people would rather play Fortnite CoD and not Activision CoD. This should be an eye-opener of how bad it’s been.”

CoD fans are calling for a Verdansk or Rebirth Island remake using Fortnite Creative 2.0. However, this will create roadblocks for creators working on ambitious spin-offs, such as those two classic Warzone maps.

Activision’s move to crack down on CoD-inspired Fortnite maps has caused outrage among fans who believe that the company is afraid of someone making a better version of their game. While it’s important to protect intellectual property, this move has created roadblocks for creators working on innovative projects within Fortnite Creative Mode. It remains to be seen how Activision will respond to the backlash from the community and whether they will reconsider their position.

We want to hear your thoughts on Activision’s move to crack down on CoD-inspired Fortnite maps. Do you believe that they are afraid of someone making a better version of their game? Or do you think it’s important to protect intellectual property? Share your opinions in the comments section below.
