After the Modern Warfare 3 reveal event on August 17, people were very excited. The return of well-known MW2 (2009) maps and the big changes to TTK made players very happy.
The excitement level went up even more when the Zombies and Campaign modes were added. But even with all the good things being said, some details had players scratching their heads.
Scump Weighs In: The Controversy Surrounding MW3’s A.C.S. Field Upgrade
The ‘Tac Stance’ movement is one thing that has caught people’s attention. Players don’t know how it works or what effect it has on gameplay.
But putting in place the A.C.S. Field Upgrade is the real source of debate. Even though it might change the game in public matches, it hasn’t been well received in the pro league, especially by legends like Seth “Scump” Abner.
Scump has good reason to be worried about the A.C.S. Field Upgrade. On August 17, Scump was seen commenting on a video by JGOD that explained how the A.C.S. works. This was in one of his recent Twitch streams. Players can throw the A.C.S. at an objective, allowing it to capture points.
This gives the player more freedom to move around the map and focus on killing enemies. Scump was shocked and said, “They have something you can throw on the objective and it will play the objective for you? That’s a no-go from the start! “Are you crazy?!”
Scump basically says that the A.C.S. Field Upgrade will be added to the Gentlemen’s Agreements list right away. These are informal agreements between pro gamers, and they’re often made to avoid things that could mess up competitive play.
Especially at the start of a game’s life, the pro community often bans certain tools or features from competitive play. Since the A.C.S. Field Upgrade works almost on its own, many people, including Scump, think that the Call of Duty League pros will stop using it before it even comes out.
But games are always changing, just like any sport. What might seem like a bad trait right now could be used in a smart way in the future. There is a small chance that players will start to like the idea of using the A.C.S., but based on how they feel now, it seems unlikely.
Overall, Modern Warfare 3 has gotten mostly positive reviews, but the A.C.S. Field Upgrade adds an element of uncertainty. Only time will tell if it stays a part of competitive gameplay or if it gets moved to public matches. Right now, the only thing that is certain is that MW3’s competition is still changing.
