One of the most famous battle royale games in the past few years, Apex Legends, is being criticised again. This time, players are upset with the ranked system because more and more accounts are getting to the highly regarded Masters rank.
High-elo players are unhappy with the Season 17 ranked experience and are beginning to doubt the integrity of the rank sharing.
Rank Distribution Issues: Apex Legends Players Demand Change
About 17% of the Apex Legends ranked player base currently hold the Masters rank, according to a tracking website. Even people who work in Apex Legends games, like leakers and managers, have been able to achieve this top tier rank.
One TSM player manager named “minustempo” went on Twitter to say what they thought about the situation. They just recently ranked up to Masters, but they called the badge that came with it a “participation badge.”
S17 Apex Ranked
1. Masters is a participation badge for those who sucked at the game and the badge is now meaningless.
2. System won't be hotfixed because it would invalidate the entire season till now.
3. We don't even know if they are planning to change it for Season 18… pic.twitter.com/WnVZrsoZdG

In their tweet, they said that they thought the badge no longer meant anything. The manager showed how the Masters rank is becoming less important by saying that professional players no longer find it worth their time to work their way up the ranked ladder.
Most of the time, their lobbies are full of less skilled players or even bots, which makes it feel like playing in a normal public match. “Ranked is essentially pubs with more stream sniping, and there is no ranked system,” they said. They also said that at best, their gun skills are about the same as Gold or Platinum players.
Minustempo was very harsh in their criticism, going so far as to question the sanity of players who support the way the ranked system is now. They said that they were either crazy or telling themselves lies on purpose.
The manager’s tweet struck a chord with the community, and many people reacted to say they agreed or talked about their own problems with the system.
One player said that in earlier seasons, they had tried to get to the Masters rank but had not been able to. But this season, they were able to get there without much trouble. This achievement, however, felt hollow and unsatisfying, as if they had been cheated out of a real chance to get into Masters.
Since more and more players are getting to the top level, the Masters rank is losing some of its distinction and status. Will Apex Legends‘ developer, Respawn Entertainment, address these issues and take steps to restore the game’s competitive integrity?
