Rocks are the focus of attention this time around as Fortnite players become more and more unhappy with the state of hitboxes. Simply put, hitboxes show whether or not an bullet from a player has hit an enemy or an item.
Hitboxes are especially interesting to people who play shooters and fighting games, so the subject comes up occasionally when talking about games like Fortnite.
Are Broken Hitboxes Ruining Fortnite?
Players might say, though, that Fortnite doesn’t always get it right. In the past, for example, the hitbox of a tree made it impossible for users to hurt enemies standing near it. In this case, the opponent might not take damage, but the tree might be cut down.
Unfortunately, a similar problem has come up again, making it impossible for one person to kill what should have been an easy target.
Rock hitboxes need to be updated.
Reddit user Yaboymes wrote in the description of a gameplay video they posted, “Rock hitboxes need to be changed.” The clip is only 20 seconds long, but it shows exactly how upset the Redditor was.
During the clip, the user sees an enemy standing on a platform far away. Because they are so far apart, the Redditor puts on their sniper gun and lines up what looks like the perfect shot.
Even though there is a big rock close, there is still plenty of room for the shooter to hit their target. That’s what they thought.
Instead of hitting the faraway target, the shooter hurts the rock. Even pulling out a machine gun doesn’t help. After a few more shots that could have been clean, only the big rock is hit. And even after it’s gone, the enemy still moves away without getting hurt.
There’s no need to say that other players feel bad for the Reddit user. “Oof, you got mega robbed there,” someone said. Someone else in the thread said, “Didn’t know rocks had hitboxes that high, that stinks.”
Another player who has been playing Fortnite for a long time said, “Last season it was the trees, this season it’s the rocks…” Another Fortnite player says that the hitboxes on trees are still “broken,” especially on Rumble.
At the moment, no one knows if or when Epic Games will fix these problems.
